about

Salt Pig seamlessly blend regimented bass and drum grooves with extended atmospheric passages that wouldn't be out of place on a Godspeed You Black Emperor! record. All the while, the synthesiser of Zebedee Budworth and saxophone of Tom McCormick meld together, sometimes indiscernibly, to comfort and challenge alternately.

Album opener Snow Bones runs the gamut of Salt Pig's sonics in its 11 minutes while "Asleep in Tbilisi" is a shorter collage of tumbling MS-20 synth arpeggios and underwater drums. Take It and Drive begins a lighter affair in which Tom's early smooth saxophone melodies act as a trojan horse for latter sinister drones and delays. Closer "Watersmeet" sounds like something you'd find on track 2 of a '90s Chemikal Underground sample CD complete with catchy Mogwai-esque bass licks and swirling synthesiser and saxophone interactions that see out the album.

Featuring members of Night Flowers, Acid Mass, naisian, Unholy Shrines and pjaro amongst others, Salt Pig is made up of Joe Doldon, Dan Butlin, Tom McCormick and Zebedee Budworth with Adam Zejma providing additional sound effects. Painstakingly hand-picked from over 6 hours of extensive improvisation using the Asenburi method, the 4 tracks of Salt Pig's debut album "The Chalk Circle" clock in at 35 minutes.
